Downtown Detroit Engagement Session

This engagement session was honestly what dreams are made of. While not all of my couples opt for an engagement session prior to their wedding, I always recommend it. It’s an opportunity for you to get comfortable in front of my lens, for me to see how I can best capture you authentically, and for us to build our relationship in anticipation for your wedding day. And capturing these sweet moments for Will & Amelia only made me more excited for their big day next summer.

We started off in the heart of downtown Detroit to capture that classic chic city feel. From shots in front of the Shinola Hotel, over to Gridwold with a sweet Macarons break at Cannelle, Will & Amelia were immediate naturals in front of the camera, which only made my job that much easier.

We then made our way over to Belle Isle, just in time for golden hour. The light was absolutely magical, creating a timeless and editorial feel to the photos.

I love incorporating elements of documentary and film into my work, and this session was no exception. The images we captured felt so organic and really showcased the Will & Amelia’s love for each other. It was a beautiful blend of nature and cityscape, creating a unique and memorable engagement session.

I’m so thankful to be able to capture memories like these for my clients. It’s moments like these that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. While I typically only offer engagement sessions couples who’s wedding I’m also capturing, I take on a select few stand-alone engagement sessions per season. If you’re interested in chatting about a session, let’s connect!

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT MIKAYLA

The daughter of a musician and a television producer, art and creation is in my blood

My love for photography started when I was seven, on a family trip to Hawaii. My parents gave me two disposable cameras, and within hours, I had already filled one with photos of everything around me. That’s where it all began—I wanted to remember our little piece of Maui exactly how it was, and that approach to life has never left me.
